At a meeting held in Porto on November 28 of the same year, other Portuguese professional football league clubs unanimously agreed to host it. All clubs from Portugal's two professional leagues, the Portuguese Super League and the Portuguese Liga 1, will participate in the tournament. Setubal is the first Portuguese League Cup champion.
Portuguese League Cup competition system:
The Portuguese League Cup schedule is divided into five stages: the first round, the second round, the group stage, the semi-finals, the final, and the final round. After each stage of the competition, the elimination and promotion system will be carried out according to the competition system to enter the next stage of the competition, and finally the Portuguese League Cup champion will be crowned.
After the first tournament, the Portuguese Professional Football League approved changes to the competition format. The cup will initially be played by the second-tier Portuguese Liga teams in a two-leg match on a home-and-away basis. The winner will join the first-tier Portuguese Super League team ranked 7-14 last season plus two teams promoted from the Portuguese Liga last season. Divided into 6 groups, with 3 teams in each group, each team plays 1 home and away game.
The champions of each group and the top six teams in the Portuguese Super League last season are divided into 3 groups, with 4 teams in each group. Each team plays 3 games. The champion of each group advances together with the second-place team with the best results. In the semi-finals, the winner of a single game determines the final team.
