The main symptoms of chronic bronchitis are cough, expectoration and shortness of breath. Cough usually begins in the morning, and you may suddenly cough or expectorate during sleep. Sputum is generally white sticky sputum or serous foam-like sputum, and there may be yellow purulent sputum when bacterial infection occurs. There are more expectorations in the morning, which can stimulate expectoration, shortness of breath and chest tightness after getting up or changing body position. Patients with obvious wheezing may be accompanied by bronchial asthma. If emphysema occurs, they may be short of breath after exercise.
