The Butter Lantern Festival is a festival of the Tibetan people.
The fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the Tibetan calendar is the last day of the Chuanzhao Dharma Assembly. On this day, in many places where Tibetans live, flowers, birds, fish, insects and figures made of colorful butter will be displayed to celebrate the Butter Lantern Festival. Monks, laypeople and folk artists from all over Tibet use locally produced butter and Tibetan pigments to make exquisite butter flowers. Many butter flowers are also composed of multiple frames to form a series of stories, telling ancient legends of the Tibetan people.
