The rhizome is a root-like metamorphic stem that grows horizontally underground, with distinct nodes and internodes, on which new branches can sprout and adventitious roots can grow. The root is formed by the expansion of the underground stem apex of the 3-4 nodes, the apical section is the shortest, the second section is slightly shorter, the thickest, the last section of the thinnest, each section has terminal buds, axillary buds, leaf buds wrapped in the sheath-like bracts.
The lotus root has both roots and stems, and both roots and stems are essential structures of the lotus root.
Stem: Also known as the lotus root that we eat, the stem has the role of transporting nutrients and water as well as supporting the leaves, flowers and fruits in a certain space.
