Hunan Province, referred to as Xiang for short, is a provincial administrative region of the People's Republic of China, with Changsha as the capital, Jiangxi Province in the east, Chongqing and Guizhou Province in the west, Guangdong and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south and Hubei Province in the north. Located in the transition zone from Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to Jiangnan Hilly and Nanling Mountains to Jianghan Plain, the terrain is a horseshoe-shaped landform surrounded by mountains on three sides and open to the north. It is composed of plains, basins, hilly areas, mountains and rivers and lakes, spanning the Yangtze River and Pearl River, and belongs to subtropical monsoon climate.
As far back as the Paleolithic, there were ancient human activities in Hunan. In the Jin Dynasty, there were Hunan prefectures named after Hunan, and in the Tang Dynasty, Hunan was established as the name of Hunan's establishment. Hunan Province is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and most of the province is in the south of Dongting Lake, so it is called Hunan. Xiangjiang River runs through the north and south of the province, so it is called Xiang for short. It is between east longitude108 47' ~1415' and north latitude 24 38' ~ 30. Guizhou Province is bordered by the eastern edge of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the west, Chongqing City in the northwest by Wuling Mountain Range, Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south, and Hubei Province in the north by Binhu Plain.
The provincial boundary reaches Huanglianping in Guidong County in the east, Jiucaitang in xinhuang dong autonomous county in the west, Gupo Mountain in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County in the south and Huping Mountain in Shimen County in the north. It is 667 kilometers wide from east to west and 774 kilometers long from north to south, with a total land area of 2 1 1829 square kilometers, accounting for 2.21%of the total land area in China.
