The Godfather is the head of the Mafia, the first Godfather being Vito Corleone.
In the West, the word "godfather" originally meant a religious leader of young men. Vito Corleone went from being an ordinary young man in Sicily to building a Mafia empire, and was known as the leader of his family, and was therefore honored by his family and his men as "The Godfather".
Origins
The Mafia (Mafia) originated in Sicily, Italy and Corsica, France, and refers to local criminal organizations with secret societies. Today, these criminal organizations are not only active in Italy itself, but for more than 100 years (mainly in the early 20th century) they have been spreading around the world, especially on the east coast of the United States, along with immigrants of Italian descent.
Their power in the United States emerged during the Great Depression and was at its peak in the mid-20th century, until a series of FBI investigations in the 1970s and 1980s dismantled them.
