Mianyang is located in the heart of the "Western Triangle" of Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi'an. It is possible to grow star anise.

Anise is a south subtropical tree species, preferring warm winters and cool summers in the mountainous climate, suitable for planting in the soil layer deep, well-drained, fertile and moist, acidic sandy loam or loamy soil on the growth of good, in the dry and barren or low-lying waterlogged sections of poor growth.

"Bajiao" is mainly produced in western and southern Guangxi (Baise, Nanning, Qinzhou, Wuzhou, Yulin and other areas are cultivated), 200-700 meters above sea level, while the natural distribution of the altitude up to 1600 meters. Guilin Yanshan (about 25°11′ N) and Jiangxi Shangrao Steep Water Town (25°50′ N) have been introduced, and normal flowering and fruiting. It is also grown in southern Fujian, western Guangdong, and southeastern and southern Yunnan. Anise fruit is a famous flavoring spice, also for medicinal use. The rind, seeds and leaves all contain aromatic oils, which are important raw materials for the manufacture of cosmetics, sweet spiced wine, beer and the food industry. The fruit blossoms in March-May and ripens in September-October, while the spring brown fruit blossoms in August-October and ripens in March-April of the following year.
