Ultraman is a Light Giant from the M78 Nebula, who has come to Earth in order to hunt down the fugitive cosmic monster, Bermuda, and to came to Earth. While chasing Bermuda over Lake Ronson, he accidentally collided with the airplane in which Susumu Hayashida, a member of the Science Task Force, was traveling, causing him to crash and die. In order to make up for his mistake and save Hayata's life.

Outman gave his life to Hayate and merged with him to bring him back to life. Afterwards, Ultraman and Hayate fought together to defend the Earth against a host of ferocious monsters and evil cosmic beings.
