Wuxi, abbreviated as "XI" and known as Liangxi and Jingui in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, one of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta region as approved by the State Council and an important scenic tourist city.

Wuxi is one of the important birthplaces of Jiangnan civilization, with a documented history dating back to the end of the Shang Dynasty.

Toward the end of the 11th century, Tai Bo, the eldest son of Dan, gave way to his third brother, Jili, and together with his second brother, Zhongyong, ran east to the south of the Yangtze River, settling in Meili (present-day Meicun, Wuxi), and establishing a city and a state, which was named "Gou Wu". Today, Wuxi has Tai Bo Hall of Fame.

At the end of the Shang Dynasty, Zhou destroyed the Shang Dynasty, and because Tai Bo had no son, Ji Fa posthumously appointed Zhou Zhang, the fifth grandson of Zhong Yong, as the ruler of Wu, and built the state of Wu. The youngest son of Zhou Zhang, a descendant of Tai Bo, was appointed as the Marquis of Anyang, and Yangshan Mountain in present-day Huishan District is also known as Anyang Mountain. In the third year of King Yuan of Zhou (473 B.C.), the state of Yue destroyed the state of Wu, and Wuxi belonged to the state of Yue. In the thirty-fifth year of King Xian of Zhou (334 years ago), the state of Chu destroyed Yue, and Wuxi belonged to the state of Chu.

In the twenty-fourth year of Qin's reign (223 BC), Qin destroyed Chu and established the Huiji County, to which Wuxi belonged. Qin Shihuang sent Wang Jian to garrison Wuxi.

In the fifth year of the reign of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (202 BC), Wuxi County was established and belonged to Huiji County. In the first year of Wang Mang's reign, it was renamed Wuxi County. In the first year of Jianwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 years), it was renamed Wuxi County. During the Three Kingdoms period, the area west of Wuxi County was divided into cantonment fields, and Viling Dinong school lieutenants were set up (in present-day Changzhou).

In the first year of Taikang of the Western Jin Dynasty (280), Wuxi County was re-established and belonged to Biling County (present Changzhou).

During the Tang Dynasty, Wuxi belonged to the Jiangnan East Road of the Jiangnan Road.

During the Song Dynasty, Wuxi belonged to Changzhou of the Liangzhe Road. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the Road of Jiangsu and Zhejiang was divided into east and west, and Wuxi belonged to Changzhou of the Western Road of Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

In the first year of Yuan Zhenyuan (1295), Wuxi was elevated to the status of a state, and belonged to Changzhou Road of Jiangsu and Zhejiang Xingzhongshu Province.

In the first year of Hongwu of Ming Dynasty (1368), Wuxi was downgraded to be a county and belonged to Changzhou Prefecture of Zhongshu Province.

Qing Yongzheng two years (1724), divided into Wuxi for Wuxi, Jin Gui two counties, the same city and rule, both belong to Changzhou Prefecture.
