Cordyceps sinensis is a perennial herb with a height of 50 cm. Stem edges and nodes retrorsely pilose and hispid. Rhizomes are fatty and fleshy. Leaves oblong-ovate, 4.5-8 cm long, blunt apex, shallow heart-shaped or round base, crenate pot-shaped teeth, both surfaces sparsely hairy, with dense hairs on the lower veins; Stem and leaf petioles are 1-4.5 cm long, densely pilose and strigose.

Cordyceps sinensis is produced in Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi and Sichuan.
