Thermal effect of food
The thermal effect of food refers to the extra energy consumption caused by eating, which is generally used for the digestion, absorption and metabolism of food, also known as the special dynamic function of food. The calculation method is the ratio of the extra energy consumption caused by eating to the energy produced by complete metabolism of food. According to this definition, the food thermal effect value of negative calorie food should be at least 100%.
In other words, after eating food, the value of energy consumption is greater than the energy it produces. There is no evidence that any ordinary food contains negative calories. Celery, also known as "negative calorie" food, has a thermal effect of only 8%. Even protein, which has the highest thermal effect, is only 20-30%, far from 100%. ?
Although there is no so-called negative calorie food, some foods with low calorie or high fiber content have low energy density (less energy under the premise of the same volume) and can produce satiety. Eating these foods can reduce the energy intake of the human body and achieve the purpose of losing weight.
