Atractylodes, (scientific name: Atractylodes Lancea). Perennial herb. Stems solitary or clustered, stem branches sparsely covered with arachnoid hairs. Middle and lower stem leaves orbicular, obovate, obliquely ovate, ovate, or elliptic, 3-5(7-9)-pinnatipartite or semilobed, base cuneate or broadly cuneate, lateral lobes 1-2(3-4) pairs, elliptic, long elliptic, or obovate-oblong-elliptic, several sessile; above middle or upper stem leaves undivided, obovate-long, obovate-oblong-elliptic, or long elliptic; or all stem leaves undivided; middle stem leaves obovate, long obovate, oblanceolate, or long oblanceolate; leaves stiffly papery, green on both surfaces, glabrous. Heads solitary at tips of stem branches; involucre campanulate, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, involucral bracts 5-7-layered, outermost and outer layers ovate or ovate-lanceolate, middle layer long ovate, long elliptic, or ovate-long elliptic, inner layer linear-long elliptic or linear; bracts needle-serrated pinnatisect or y lobed. Florets white. Achenes obovoid, densely covered with white long straight hairs; crown bristles brown or dirty white. Flowering and fruiting period June-October.
The rhizome of Cangzhu is used as medicine, which has the effect of drying dampness, resolving turbidity, and relieving pain, and is often distributed in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Nei Mongol, Hebei, and Shanxi.
