Lixia Egg
Eating Lixia Egg in Lixia is a custom of the Han Chinese south of the Yangtze River. Every summer, people will eat boiled eggs or salted duck eggs, and it is believed that eating eggs on the day of summer can strengthen the body. Lixia eggs are the most classic food on the day of Lixia.
Summer Cakes
Summer cakes are eaten in summer as the name suggests. In the past, it was customary to make and eat pasta in Changle towns and villages during the summer season to celebrate a good harvest of wheat.
Lixia Rice
On the day of Lixia, people in the rural area of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, would boil red beans, green beans, black beans, soybeans, mung beans and other colors of beans to make a five-color rice, which is also known as Lixia Rice. Wuxi folk traditionally have the custom of tasting three fresh in the summer. Three fresh is divided into ground three fresh, tree three fresh and water three fresh. Ground three fresh refers to cucumbers, amaranth, broad beans; tree three fresh refers to cherries, loquats, apricots; water three fresh refers to snails, shad, blowfish.
Summer congee
According to local historical records, in ancient times in China, every year "summer" festival, the folk formed a congee, hanging eggs and other customs. Folk legend has it that drinking congee on the day of the summer can ensure a year of peace and security, no disease and no disaster.
Lixia fruit
Lixia fruit, also known as Lixia kueyue, is a special food of the Lixia festival around Yiyang, Jiangxi Province. On the day of Lixia, every family will cook a big pot of Lixia kuey teow and eat it all day long. Lixia kuey teow is made from steamed rice, then kneaded and rolled into small balls, and added with bean sprouts, dried beans, shrimp, peas and other ingredients to make "Lixia kuey teow", also known as Lixia soup. Legend has it that eating Lixia Kuei means sending spring to welcome summer, and the more varieties it has, the richer the spring harvest and the more festive it is.
