In May, 2008, the "Food Nutrition Labeling Management Standard" issued by the Ministry of Health of China stated that the nutrient reference values (NRV) is a reference standard for comparing the nutritional content of food on food nutrition labels, and it is also a nutritional reference scale for consumers when choosing food.
"Food Nutrition Labeling Management Standard" provides nutrient reference values (NRV) of food labeling, and the standard nutrient reference values is formulated according to recommended intake (RNI) and appropriate intake (AI) of dietary nutrients for Chinese residents.
The formula for calculating food nutrients is:
X/RNI (or AI)× 100% = NRV
Where: X = 100g of the content of a nutrient in food.
Recommended intake of RNI food nutrients and suitable intake of AI food nutrients.
The meaning of NRV is 100g, and the proportion of nutrient content in food to the daily intake of this nutrient.
