1. Introduction
Seabuckthorn is a deciduous shrub of the Elaeaceae family and the genus Seabuckthorn. It is characterized by being cold-resistant, resistant to wind and sand, and can also grow in saline-alkali land, so it is widely used in desert greening. It is mainly distributed in North China, northwest, southwest and other places in my country, such as Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shanxi, Shaanxi and other provinces. Its roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits are rich in nutrients and biologically active substances. In particular, the fruit contains a variety of nutrients such as protein, fat, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, carbohydrates, etc. It has a sweet and sour taste and is thick and juicy.
2. What it looks like
Branches: It is a deciduous shrub or tree. The height of the plant is generally 1.5 meters, but it can reach more than ten meters in mountains, valleys and other places. There are many thorns on the branches, which are thick and terminal or lateral. The color of young branches is brown-green, and the color of old branches is gray-black.
Leaves: usually single and nearly opposite. The leaf shape is narrowly lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, with blunt ends at both ends, an approximately rounded base, and a wider base. The leaves are green above and silvery white or light white below.
Fruit: The shape of the fruit is approximately spherical, with a diameter between 4-6cm and an orange-yellow or orange-red color. The length of the fruit stem is approximately 1-2.5 mm. The seeds are smaller, broadly oval to oval in shape, about 3-4.2 mm in length, black or purple-black in color, and shiny.
Flowering and fruiting period: The flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from September to October.
