Generally speaking, the size of Pseudosciaena crocea is larger than that of Pseudosciaena crocea, but this is not a fixed feature and cannot be used as the main basis for judging the size of Huang Er. Comparing the shapes of these two kinds of fish, it is not difficult to find obvious differences between them.
First, the length of the tail stalk of Pseudosciaena crocea (that is, the vertical distance between the end of the gluteal fin and the base of the caudal fin) is more than three times its height, while the length of the tail stalk of Pseudosciaena crocea is only more than two times its height. Don't underestimate this "double" difference, because with this difference, the tail of large yellow croaker is thinner and longer, which can be distinguished from that of small yellow croaker.
Secondly, the large yellow croaker above the lateral line has 8-9 rows of scales, while the small yellow croaker has only 5-6 rows. In contrast, the scale of large yellow croaker is smaller, while that of small yellow croaker is larger. Of course, this is just a comparison between the two.
