1, soil
Mediterranean root celery likes warm, humid, fertile and loose soil, and has low requirements for sunlight.
2. Sowing time
Mediterranean celery is planted in spring or early summer, usually around May. The sowing depth is about 1~2cm. You can also raise seedlings indoors first, and then transplant them outdoors when the plants grow to 5~ 10cm.
3. Seed treatment
The peel of Mediterranean root celery is hard, contains more oil, and has poor water absorption capacity, so its germination ability is weak, the seedlings are poor and the germination rate is low. Before sowing, we should do a good job of soaking seeds and accelerating germination. The water temperature should be controlled at about 25 degrees and soaked for 9 hours. Wash the seeds, control the dry water, mix well with the soil and spread them evenly on the seedbed. The soil of the seedbed should be finely ground, and after applying foot fertilizer, it should be watered to ensure the contact between the seeds and the soil, and the temperature should be controlled at about 20 degrees, so as to strengthen management and promote seed germination.
4. Planting
Before planting, we should choose soft and deep plots with sufficient fertility as planting fields, and then do a good job of clearing the garden, turning the land deep and applying appropriate base fertilizer. Control the planting density, transplant properly, be careful not to hurt the roots when digging seedlings, and transplant with soil.
Morphological characteristics of root celery;
Root celery, a biennial herb, is a variety of celery in Umbelliferae, which can form fleshy roots. The aboveground part of celery is similar to celery, the underground root is yellowish brown, and the root is fleshy and spherical. Edible swollen parts are mainly composed of shortened stems, hypocotyls and upper parts of roots. The outermost layer of fleshy root is periderm, and the secondary phloem is inward, which has developed parenchyma tissue and is the main edible part. Further inward is the secondary xylem.
The stem is shortened in vegetative growth period, and leaves are attached to it. 1~ 2 bipinnately divided, with 2 ~ 3 small compound leaves, ovoid 3-lobed and serrated edges. In the reproductive growth stage, the stem tip shoots flower buds and branches many times. Inflorescence is a compound umbellate flower. Flowers are small, white, cross-pollinated or self-pollinated. Double bilberry, spherical. The flowering period is from May to June.
