The founder of Tongrentang was Le Xian Yang. Le Xian Yang, No. Zunyu, ancestral home in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, the Ming Dynasty Yongle years moved to Beijing. His ancestors practiced medicine for three generations. Since he was a young boy, he read widely from prescription books, and devoted himself to the research and production of prescription medicines. The pills he makes are all made of pure and authentic materials, and the production is fine and rigorous, and the patients have remarkable results after using them.
He took the practice of medicine as a kind of health care to help the world effectiveness in the community's highest pursuit of business, he said: "can be health, can help the world, but medicine for the most." Le Xianyang founded the Tongrentang Pharmacy in 1669, the eighth year of the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.
Most of Tongrentang's more than 400 proprietary Chinese medicine formulas have been tested many times, with rational formulas, proper dosages and high efficacy. In terms of purchasing goods, in the late Qing Dynasty, there were four major drug houses in Beijing, including Tianhui, Tiancheng, Longsheng and Huifeng. These four major drugstores were all trading with Tongrentang, and all of them used the goods first and paid later.
