A native of Yangshang Village, Taocheng Town, Yongchun County, Fujian Province, he was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in 1928. In 1946, he was admitted to the Department of Foreign Languages ??and Literatures of Xiamen University. In 1947, he entered the Department of Foreign Languages ??of Jinling University (later transferred to Xiamen University). He published his first poem in 1948. He moved to Hong Kong with his parents in 1949 and went to Taiwan the following year to study in the Department of Foreign Languages ??of National Taiwan University. Graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages ??and Literature at National Taiwan University in 1952.
