The peak season for pineapples is summer.
Pineapple production usually has four harvest seasons: spring fruit, which matures from April to May; summer fruit, which matures from June to July; autumn fruit, which matures from October to November; winter fruit, which matures from October to November. It matures from December to January of the following year.
Pineapples can take root in about 1 month at a temperature of 22~24℃. The optimum temperature for root growth is 29-31°C. Growth will stop if it is lower than 5°C or higher than 43°C. Roots begin to grow in March and grow rapidly as the temperature increases. Growth reaches its peak from late May to July, then slows down after October. From December to February of the following year, the near-surface root system dies due to cold and drought. The leaves begin to grow when spring is warm. From May to July, the leaves are dark green and grow faster. They basically stop growing in winter and the leaves turn red and yellow. If the leaf tissue is dehydrated and turns green due to cold damage, it will dry up.
Extended information
Pineapple is native to the dry tropical mountains of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, but no real wild ones have been found. It was spread to Central America and northern South America for cultivation probably before 1600 AD. Because pineapple sprouts are more resistant to storage and transportation, they quickly spread to tropical and subtropical regions around the world in a short period of time. It is cultivated in about 61 countries and regions in the world. In addition to China, it is cultivated more in Thailand, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines and Malaysia.
Pineapple cultivation in China is mainly concentrated in Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hainan and other provinces. There is also a small amount of cultivation in Yunnan and southern Guizhou, with a history of more than 400 years. The main pineapple producing areas in Taiwan are in Tainan, Taichung and Kaohsiung. Guangdong Province has a large pineapple cultivation area and a large output. The production areas are concentrated in Shantou, Zhanjiang, Jiangmen and other areas and the suburbs of Guangzhou. The main production areas in Guangxi are in Nanning, Wuming, Yongning, Ningming, Bobai and other counties and cities.
