Later, he was worried that he would not be able to leave Nanjing because of the epidemic, so he took a bus to leave Nanjing and return to Yangzhou. After returning to Yangzhou, he learned that Nanjing's new crown epidemic was serious but did not take it seriously. In the afternoon of that day, he went to the chess and card room to play cards for nearly three hours without wearing a mask the whole time. After Mao developed cold and fever symptoms the next day, he still went to the chess and card room to play cards without taking protective measures, and never wore a mask during normal outings in the following days.

A few days later, Mao rested at home when his fever symptoms continued. It wasn't until July 27 that XX's condition worsened and he went to a regular hospital for treatment. Because he was a fever patient, the hospital adopted an intensive inquiry period, so XX concealed his activity history of playing cards in Nanjing a few days ago. Since he failed to cooperate with the investigation many times and was highly likely to be infected, he was quarantined by Yangzhou Third People's Hospital that night. After being diagnosed with COVID-19 the next day, Mao still concealed his itinerary. It was not until he was asked on September 13 that he took the initiative to explain his activity. Mao’s concealment directly caused 70 people to be diagnosed. Yangzhou fell into panic.
