The king squid is the largest squid found in the world at present. In the middle of 20 14 1 month, through the efforts of Japanese biologists, NHK and Discovery Channel, after 1000 voyages and more than 400 hours of diving search, the giant squid was finally photographed in the sea at a depth of 630 meters, and the first time this behemoth was photographed was on 20 1 month.
What is a king squid?
The largest mollusk in the underwater world is the king squid of Cephalopoda, a sheath subclass. As early as the end of19th century, it was recorded that the squid was 3 meters long and its tentacles were 15 meters long. Its eyes are 30 cm in diameter, which is unparalleled in the whole animal world. This squid is also the largest animal among all ridgeless propellers.
The king squid lives in deep waters, and it is usually difficult for people to observe the mysterious "giant in the sea" and it is also very difficult to capture it. At the earliest, people found the body of the king squid from the stomach of the captured sperm whale, but what they got by dissecting the sperm whale was only the remaining body tissue digested by gastric juice-their tentacles and two jaw body parts. It was not until 1877 that humans first found the body of a king squid on the beach in Newfoundland, North Atlantic, and made the only basically complete specimen of the king squid.
Sperm whales are the sworn enemies of the king squid. Once they meet in the sea, there is always a life-and-death struggle. Zoologist Jinkovic witnessed the thrilling scene of the encounter between the two powers in 1938. It was a calm morning on the sea, and people suddenly found a sperm whale jumping out of the sea and constantly rolling and flapping on the sea, just like a sperm whale struggling with a harpoon. At first glance, the huge head of the sperm whale seems to be covered with an oversized super wreath. The shape of the wreath has been changing, expanding for a while and shrinking for a while. On closer inspection, it turned out that it was a king squid clinging to the whale's head with its long tentacles, just like putting a tight hoop on it, which made it miserable. The sperm whale tried to stun its opponent by slamming the sea. Repeatedly jump the whole body out of the sea, beat and roll fiercely, finally subdue the squid, and finally swallow the prey in the stomach.
In fact, it is reasonable to say that the king squid is also a fierce animal. It is difficult to judge who is the provocateur who takes the initiative to attack when it fights with the two strong sperm whales. Cephalopod mollusks such as the king squid, swimming extremely fast, could have easily escaped from the scene if it wanted to avoid a head-on collision and killing with sperm whales.
Is the king squid a squid?
In the early voyage, there were many stories about giant sea monsters, including the legend about giant squid. It is said that whales often fight with giant squid, and giant squid sometimes drags human ships into the bottom of the sea. In fact, the giant sea monster people talk about is just a giant squid, which is 12~ 18 meters long and can live in the ocean with a depth of 3000 meters. This giant squid is the king squid, which is one of the largest animals in the world and the largest invertebrate. The king squid belongs to Cephalopoda, Guniformes, and the giant squid family. Although it has "squid" in its name, it is actually not a squid. Squid and squid are different. They are similar in appearance, but there are obvious differences: squid is long and narrow, a bit like the spear head of javelin, so it is also called squid. Squid tentacles are not as long as squid tentacles, and they can't all shrink into the body. However, because the term "King Squid" has been used for a long time, it is also common in many formal articles, and it is probably a legal name.
Scientists don't know much about this huge marine animal, because so far, people have never successfully captured the wild live king squid. All we know comes from the dead body of the king squid that washed up on the beach, or the dead body in fishermen's trawl. According to the study of food in their stomachs, these sea behemoths are all carnivores, but they are rarely picky eaters and stuff almost everything into their stomachs. They have evolved big eyes, and their eyesight is quite good. However, there are a lot of creatures in the deep sea where they live that glow, so these giant squid follow the light with their big eyes and hunt easily.
