Jin Yong's ancestral home is Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province, and he was born in Haining, Zhejiang Province, in 1924. The Cha family is a prestigious local family, with the reputation of "a huge family since the Tang and Song dynasties, and a number of families in the south of the Yangtze River". Historically, the Cha family was at its peak during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, headed by Cha Shenxing, uncle and nephew seven people served as a Hanlin, "a seven-ranking scholar, uncle and nephew, two Hanlin," said, after the whole clan into the eight banners of the Han Chinese people, formally became a package of clothes. Other famous figures from Haining include Wang Guowei and Xu Zhimo. Xu Zhimo is Jin Yong's cousin. His ancestor, Cha Jizuo, was one of the earliest informants to the authorities in the "Ming Dynasty Case". Jin Yong's grandfather, Cha Cangshan, was a party to the "Danyang case".
