Garlic planting is relatively simple. After applying enough organic base fertilizer, turn it into a flat bed, which can be ditched for sowing or directly applied. No matter which planting method, we must ensure that the garlic tip is facing up, otherwise the emergence rate of garlic is extremely low.
There are two problems that must be paid attention to when planting garlic. One is that the tip of garlic bolt is upward, otherwise it will affect the germination and growth of garlic. Another factor affecting the germination and growth of garlic is the planting depth, which also needs attention.
People often say that "deep furrow onions, shallow garlic", but garlic seeds should not be too shallow. The main reason why garlic planting should not be too shallow is to avoid garlic jumping, that is, garlic is broken by newly grown roots and garlic cloves are pushed out of the ground.
When garlic is planted, there will be a period of low temperature, and the garlic cloves pushed out of the ground are easily exposed to the sun and lose moisture, resulting in the loss of nutrient supply for garlic seedlings or roots. Even if the seedlings are not dead, it will lead to the problem of weak garlic seedlings and affect the later growth.
If garlic is planted too deeply, the newly-grown bud tip of garlic cannot be pushed out of the ground in a short time, which will affect the respiration and growth of the bud tip. This problem is still quite serious. If the soil moisture is high after garlic planting, the bud tip of garlic will be killed.
Even if it can be pushed out of the ground in a few days, it will lead to the weakness of garlic seedlings in the later stage of excavation. Garlic needs to grow to five or six leaves before overwintering, especially in the later stage, garlic swelling will also be affected to some extent, and garlic buried in the soil will deeply affect the yield.
Although there is a requirement for the planting depth of garlic, this requirement is generally based on local and natural conditions and years of accumulated planting experience. Garlic planting depth has a great relationship with local garlic planting habits, and garlic planting experience is more important.
For example, garlic planted in early spring is easily affected by high temperature in the later stage. Finally, the surface temperature is very high. Garlic planting requires not only watering, but also shallow planting to ensure the rapid emergence of garlic. Because of the low temperature, the overwintering garlic needs to be sown deeply.
The depth of garlic planting is also related to the size of garlic seeds. For example, the quality of first-class garlic seeds is good, so deep sowing is needed when garlic cloves are planted in large quantities to avoid the problem of garlic jumping when roots grow fast, and shallow sowing is needed when garlic seeds are small to avoid weak emergence.
At the same time, the planting depth of garlic is also related to the ability of soil to retain water and fertilizer. There is no big requirement for the planting depth of water and fertilizer plots. After all, there is plenty of water and fertilizer, but the plots with poor water and fertilizer conservation should be deeply ploughed appropriately to avoid the lack of soil moisture affecting the emergence of seedlings.
Generally speaking, the planting depth of garlic is within the range of three to five centimeters, that is, the shallow depth should not be less than three centimeters and the deep depth should not exceed five centimeters. Too deep or too shallow will affect the normal growth of garlic, so avoid jumping garlic too shallow and avoiding seedling emergence too deep.
Of course, the depth of garlic planting needs to be combined with local garlic planting experience, so as to adapt to local conditions and adapt to the times, and more experienced garlic planting veterans need to be hired. Rich garlic planting experience can reduce a lot of field management.
