The Yulin Dog Meat Festival in Guangxi is celebrated on the summer solstice (June 21 or June 22) every year. It is a spontaneous folk festival in Yulin, Guangxi, China, where the local people start to eat a lot of lychee and dog meat according to the historically established custom, from which the Yulin Lychee and Dog Meat Festival gets its name. The summer solstice is the day when "yang qi" is at its peak, and eating lychee and dog meat, both of which are very "hot" (prone to fire), echoes "yang qi", which means "to control yang with yang", and "to control yang with yang".
