Electric eels are not found in China.
——Electric eels in nature: distributed in the Amazon, Guyana, and Orinoco river basins of South America.
Electric eels are distributed in tropical and subtropical basins. Except for Europe and the Americas, they are mainly distributed in the Atlantic Ocean. They are also distributed in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Appearance characteristics
Electric eels are slow-moving and inhabit slow-flowing freshwater bodies. They will rise to the surface from time to time to swallow air and breathe. The body length can reach 2.5 meters and the weight can reach 20 kilograms. It is cylindrical in shape, has a smooth and scaleless body surface, a black back and an orange-yellow abdomen.
The dorsal fin and caudal fin are degraded, but the tail accounts for nearly 4/5 of the total body length. There is a long anal fin on its lower edge, which swims relying on the stirring of the anal fin. The tail has an electrical generator, derived from muscle tissue and innervated by the spinal nerves. The body has two pairs of long spindle-shaped generators located on both sides of the spinal cord at the tail.
Living environment
The living environment of electric eels is mostly turbid and slow-flowing waters. This kind of place brings it two characteristics:
First First, the eyes are basically useless and have degraded very early. They must rely on weak current to detect the surrounding environment, so the electric eel's circuit is actually open for a long time.
The second thing is that there will definitely not be any good-looking colors in such dirty water, so the body color of electric eels is very ordinary, with gray and black upper bodies and orange lower abdomen, which are very common colors.
