As of June 2023, Changsha currently has provincial-level representative intangible cultural heritage projects including: Hunan Embroidery, Hunan Opera, Fiddle Opera, Liuyang Firecrackers, and Changsha Tongguan Ceramics.
1. Hunan embroidery
Hunan embroidery is a specialty of Changsha City, Hunan Province, and a national geographical indication product of China. Hunan embroidery is one of the four famous embroideries in China. It is the general name for Hunan embroidery products with distinctive Hunan and Chu cultural characteristics centered in Changsha, Hunan. It originated from folk embroidery in Hunan and developed by absorbing the advantages of Su embroidery and Cantonese embroidery. It has a history of more than 2,000 years.
In November 2019, the "List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Protection Units" was announced, and Changsha Mass Art Museum was qualified as a Hunan embroidery project protection unit.
2. Hunan Opera
Hunan Opera is a traditional local drama in Hunan. It is popular in Changsha and Xiangtan. Because it is sung in "Zhongzhou Rhyme, Changsha Mandarin", it is also called Changsha. Hunan Opera is a comprehensive expression of music, language, dance, folk sports and folk customs in Hunan.

3. Fiddle Opera
Fiddle Opera, formerly known as Flower Drum Opera, is a local traditional drama in Chongyang County, Hubei Province and one of the national intangible cultural heritages. The violin opera was originally a flower drum opera in Yueyang, Hunan. Around the end of the Qing Dynasty, it spread to Chongyang, Tongcheng and other places in Hubei, and was renamed "the violin opera".
It is a type of opera with unique local characteristics in Chongyang County, Hubei Province. It was gradually developed on the basis of the combination of Liangshan tune spread in southeastern Hubei, northern Hunan, northern Jiangxi and other regions, and Chongyang local minor tunes and folk music. , named after the violin as the main instrument.
The fiddle opera is loved by local people because of its beautiful tunes, bright melody, and performance content that is relevant to daily life. On June 7, 2008, the violin opera was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China and included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, with heritage number IV-126.
4. Liuyang Firecrackers
Liuyang Firecrackers are a local specialty of Liuyang City, Southern Province. They are national geographical indication protected products. They are famous for their beautiful appearance, bright colors and reliable quality. They are known as " Liuyang is famous for its fireworks that shock the world.
Liuyang’s fireworks production skills were selected into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2006, becoming a famous intangible cultural heritage in Changsha. Liuyang City was awarded the honorary title of "China's Hometown of Fireworks" by the country in 1995. Today, Liuyang's fireworks have become a unique business card of Hunan culture.
5. Changsha Tongguan Ceramics
Changsha Tongguan Ceramics is a local specialty of Tongguan Town, Wangcheng County, Changsha City. It is a national geographical indication product and one of Changsha’s famous handicraft specialties. .
Tongguan Ceramics has a long history, rich cultural connotation, and unique ceramic techniques. Its traditional production technique "Changsha Kiln Tongguan Ceramics Firing Technique" was selected into the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage and became Changsha's One of the famous intangible cultural heritage.
