Shantou belongs to Guangdong Province.

Shantou, abbreviated as "Shantou", and also known as "Alligator City" and "Alligator Island", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, and a provincial sub-center city. Shantou is located between 116°14′ and 117°19′ east longitude and 23°02′ and 23°38′ north latitude, at the southern end of the Han River Delta, bordered by Rao Ping of Chaozhou in the northeast, Chaoan of Chaozhou in the north, Jieyang and Puning in the west, Huilai of Jieyang in the southwest, and the South China Sea in the southeast, with an area of 2,064.4 square kilometers.
