The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in Tang Gaozong Yonghui for three years, that is, in 652. Because it is located in the Great Jionji in Xi 'an, it is also called "Ci 'en Temple Pagoda". One of the main reasons for building the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is to preserve the scroll Buddha statues that Xuanzang brought back to Chang 'an from Tianzhu via the Silk Road.

Wild Goose Pagoda is also the earliest and largest existing square pavilion-style brick pagoda in the Tang Dynasty in China. The construction of this building represents a landmark building crystallized by the wisdom of ancient working people.

The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a square pavilion tower with brick-like wood structure, which consists of three parts: tower foundation, tower body and tower brake. The whole tower is 64.7 meters high, the tower foundation is 4.2 meters high, the length from north to south is about 48.7 meters, and the length from east to west is about 45.7 meters.
