The origin of metapenaeus ensis's name
"Foundation" means embankment and dam, and "enclosure" means enclosure. Some people in South China of China will enclose dikes with stones at the estuary of rivers. In the early days, it was to prevent seawater from invading the fields. Later, it was found that some shrimp seedlings would enter the dikes at high tide, but they could not get out and grew up slowly.
So you can catch shrimp without going out to sea. As a result, fishermen in Guangdong developed this dam into a pond surrounded by stones to raise shrimps. The shrimps in the base are all called metapenaeus ensis.
