The prognosis of gastric cancer lies in early detection and early surgery. Generally, early gastric cancer without lymph node metastasis has a better prognosis, and the 5-year survival rate after surgery can reach 95%. If it only involves the mucosa and has local lymph node metastasis, the 5-year survival rate is about 82%. If advanced gastric cancer is allowed to progress, the average time from symptom onset to death is 1 year. About 1/3 of patients can survive for more than 5 years after undergoing radical surgery. The overall 5-year survival rate of gastric cancer is generally around 10%. The survival period after gastric cancer surgery varies according to different pathological types, early and late lesions, treatment options, etc., and cannot be generalized.
