Handstrings generally refer to beads, which are portable instruments used by Buddhists for chanting and counting, and are widely used in monks and nuns. Formerly known as "rosary", it originated from the name of the three treasures of Buddhist monks and was used to eliminate disasters and report obstacles. Usually it can be divided into three types: holding beads, threading beads and hanging beads.
The number of beads represents different meanings. There are countless materials of beads, and the beads made of "Qibao" are the most noble. Bodhi is the most widely known kind of Buddha beads.
