"Wine of Eternal Life"
An adaptation of the novel, the anime uses a time-disrupting narrative (which is controversial, but personally I think it's wonderful), with the quest for immortality of the Alchemist as the lead in to a series of stories, the key words being Alchemy and the Mafia. The anime only captured a small portion of the novel, which itself is brilliant.
MONSTER
When it comes to portraying human nature, no one can top Naoki Urasawa. The anime is completely based on the manga, and the plot is almost indistinguishable. The plot is so huge ...... but it's tight, like a densely woven web with all the elements fastened together, a masterpiece. By the way, I push all of Urasawa God's works.
"Azumanga Daioh"
This one should be considered mainstream, but it wasn't mentioned in LZ's Burlesque category, so I'll mention it again. If you've already read it, the author's currently running "Four Leaf Sisters" is also very good, in a similar style to the
"Future Diary"
manga, and this author's (supposedly a woman, it's really rare for a woman to be able to draw so brilliantly) works are all very good (there's also "Hanako and the Weirdo Detectives"), and are very creative, but I don't know why they haven't been too popular! I have no resistance to mind wars (cover your face), and the story is, as the name suggests, a game of fraud. It was adapted into a Japanese drama a couple years ago. Strongly recommend the original manga
KAIJI
Translated as Adversary Scoundrels and Gambling Mime. If you pass it up because of the drawing style you'll regret it. The story type is similar to "liargame", but this one's protagonist is a scum, and every time, he thinks of strategies when he's pushed to the brink of extinction, and the psychological performance is much better.
