Introduction to the smallest Olympic Games
The smallest Olympic Games was the 3rd Olympic Games held in St. Louis, United States from July 1 to October 29, 1904. Only 625 athletes from 12 countries participated in the competition, including 8 female athletes. The host United States team accounted for 533 people. This is because transportation to Saint-Louis is inconvenient and expensive. Therefore, France and several other European countries did not send anyone to participate.
Even the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece and other countries that sent teams to participate only sent a few representatives, with a total of only 39 athletes.
Due to the above reasons, some sports, such as boxing, freestyle wrestling, archery, water polo, etc., have become internal competitions among American athletes. This Olympic Games has the smallest number of participating countries and participants.
