Description:Small (10 cm) and slender sunbird. Top crown and back of neck metallic green, upperparts olive or nearly black, waist yellow. Upper tail feathers and central tail feathers shimmering metallic green, the two central tail feathers have a pointed extension, the outer tail feathers are black with white tips. Sides of head black with glittering green moustache lines and reddish-purple throat spots. The rest of the underparts are dirty olive-white. The female is very small, with the upperparts olive-colored and the underparts light greenish-yellow. Named subspecies with darker wings.

Iris - brown; beak - black; feet - black.

Calls: raucous and noisy. Chirps are high trills; also makes strings of chirps when feeding. Loud metallic chiff-chiff-chiff?call.

Distribution: southern China (including Hainan Island) and Vietnam.
