What kind of herb is this?
Lock yang, alias: wulan high waist, ground hair ball, sheep lock not pull, Latin name: Cynomorium songaricum Rupr. Lock yang family, lock yang genus perennial fleshy parasitic herbs, no chlorophyll, the whole reddish-brown plant, 15-100 cm high, most buried in the sand. The parasitic root is covered with different-sized lock-yang buds, first subglobose, then ellipsoid or oblong-columnar, with numerous fibrous roots and deciduous scale leaves. Stem cylindrical, erect, brown, buried in the sand with small fibrous roots, especially in the base more, stem base slightly thickened or expanded. Stem bearing spirally arranged deciduous scale leaves, denser in the middle or at the base, sparser upward; scale leaves ovate-triangular, filaments very short, anthers as in male flowers; pistil also as in female flowers. Fruit nutlet-shaped, mostly very small, subglobose or ellipsoid, pericarp white, with persistent pale yellow style at tip. Seeds subglobose, deep red, seed coat hard and thick. Flowering period May-July, fruiting period June-July. It can tonify the kidney, benefit essence and moisten dryness, and is mainly used for treating impotence and spermatorrhea, lumbar and knee soreness, intestinal dryness and constipation, and is useful for paralysis and improving the weakening of sexual function.
