Shrub to small tree, 3-7 meters high, with latex. Branchlets plump and succulent, with leaves aggregated at the top. Leaves scattered, petiolate, rectangular-orbicular, 20-40 cm long, up to 7 cm wide, tapering at both ends, bald, pinnately veined, lateral veins conjoined near the margin to form a single side vein. Cymes terminal, flowers large, numerous, very fragrant; calyx small, 5-lobed, lobes obtuse; corolla white and slightly reddish outside, yellow at base inside, 5-6 cm long, lobes obovate, covering each other, much longer than the corolla tube; stamens 5, inserted at the base of the corolla tube, anthers obtuse, rounded at base, separated from the stigma: ovaries superior, 2-carpeled, separated. Traits dry flowers, yellowish brown to tan, crinkled, mainly 5 large rotationally arranged petals. Petals obovate, ca. 3 cm long, ca. 1.5 cm wide; connate proximally into a thin tube, ca. 1.5 cm long. Stamens 5, filaments very short; small ovoid ovary sometimes visible. Gas mellow aroma, taste light slightly bitter. Clean flowers, dry, yellow-brown color, gas aroma is preferred.
