The meaning of these lines is: bright red round red beans, growing in the sunny south, spring season, I do not know how many more born? I hope that those who miss them will collect more of them, and that the tiny red beans will attract people's love.
These lines are from Wang Wei's "Acacia" in the Tang Dynasty. It is also known as "Gift to Li Guinian on the River". Critics generally agree that it was composed by Wang Wei, and that it is a poem that uses an object to express one's longing for someone (in fact, it is also to make someone long for one's own self). The poem is natural, clear and subtle, and the musician Li Guinian composed music for it, which became popular in the south of the Yangtze River.
Poetry Appreciation:
I. For whom was this poem written?
Since this poem is also known as the "River Gift to Li Guinian", it is logical that it should be written about the poet's friendship with Li Guinian. So, who was Li Guinian? Li Guinian was a famous musician in the early years of the Tang Dynasty, who was good at singing and composing music, and could play many kinds of musical instruments. During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Guenian, Li Pengnian, and Li Hernian were recognized by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty for their composition of the Weichuan Song (渭川曲). One can imagine who such musicians asked them to sing and what their income would have been like! After the An Shi Rebellion, Li Guinian was not captured by An Lushan, but was exiled to Jiangnan. At that time, Du Fu was also in Jiangnan. There is a poem by Du Fu titled "Meeting Li Guinian in Jiangnan", which was written after hearing Li Guinian sing on one occasion. The poem reads:
It is not uncommon to see Li Guinian in the mansion of Qi-wang,
and he has heard of him several times in front of Cui Jiutang.
It's a good view of Jiangnan,
It's a good time to meet you again at the time of falling flowers.
Li Guinian was later exiled to Xiangtan, Hunan Province, where he sang Wang Wei's five-character poem, "Lovesickness," at a banquet, probably to express his hope that Emperor Tang Xuanzong would be honored in the south. But by this time, Emperor Tang Xuanzong was already in his twilight years. Li Guinian was overwhelmed with emotion! It is said that he suddenly fainted and fell into a coma after singing; he awoke only four days later and died soon afterward in a depressed state. Here are a few more words: Li Guinian sang Wang Wei's "Acacia", is not also full of thoughts of Wang Wei!
Accordingly, we can deduce that the poem "Love of Each Other" should have been written before the An Shi Rebellion. Why do you say so? One is that at that time, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty and the dignitaries appreciated Li Guinian very much, and Wang Wei was not only an official in the court, but also proficient in music, so of course, he would not fail to recognize Li Guinian, who was famous in the capital; two is that at the time of the Anshi Rebellion, Wang Wei was forced to be a pseudo-government official by An Lushan, while Li Guinian was fortunate enough to flee to the south, and he had no chance of meeting with Wang Wei.
2. The beauty of the two lines of the poem "Red beans are born in the south, and in spring they sprout a few branches".
1, the first line "red beans are born in the southern part of the country" in the wonderful? On the surface there are only two meanings: one is to say that Li Guinian will go to the south, and the other is to say that there is a kind of red bean there. There are many things in the south, why only say red beans? It turns out that this red bean has a moving story. It is said that the red beans born in the South, its fruit is red and round, very beautiful, the South often pick down, as decorations to wear. It is also said that in ancient times there was a woman, her husband died in battle on the border, she missed day after day, night after night crying; finally fell under the tree crying. Soon turned into red beans, growing and sprouting in the spring. Thus, people called the red beans "Acacia". Thus, it seems that Wang Wei wrote "red beans" and "the southern part of the country" in the first sentence, and his intention is extraordinary.
2. What is the beauty of "spring"? Some people may say, "spring hair a few branches" is not asking, but that the red beans in early spring only grow a few branches. I'm afraid this is not a good idea, because it seems to be unfounded to say that the red bean only grows a few branches in early spring; and whether the branches grow more or less has nothing to do with the thoughts and feelings that the poet wants to express in writing this poem. In fact, this is a question, the poet seems to say to his friend: you to the south to take a closer look, and then tell me, in early spring, how many branches of red beans grow out ah? The poet is not asking about the red beans. He is clearly through the questioning to send the feelings of longing for his friend ah! This is a sentiment that can only be realized by reading the last two lines of the poem. May I ask: What kind of original art is this?
Three, "I wish you would pick more, this thing is the most lovesick" the two lines of the poem.
1. In ancient poems, the word "lovesickness" is not always used to refer to the love between men and women, but sometimes it is also used to express the friendship between friends. For example, in Bai Juyi's "Evening Work to Send Langzhi", "Old age is very forgetful, but I can't forget lovesickness." In this poem, he is thinking of his friend Huangfu Langzhi. In this poem, "Xiang Si" means Wang Wei misses Li Gu Nian, or it can also be said that Wang Wei believes Li Gu Nian will miss him.
2. "I wish you would pick more red beans" means that I wish Li Guinian would pick more red beans. Why do you want to pick more? To put it in a joking way: when you miss me, go and pick red beans! If you pick more, you will miss me forever! Oh, maybe Wang Wei wanted to ask his friend to pick more red beans and string them together as a necklace!
3. "This thing is the most lovesick" is the key point of the whole poem. The two words "this thing" in particular are simply a stroke of genius! Think about it, if you change "this thing" to "red beans" "this bean" or "this fruit", then there is no poetry! It's not poetic at all. Because of the use of "this thing" this two words, not only to avoid the use of word repetition, but also with the "see things think of people" this idiom of rich meaning into one. Ah, it turns out that Wang Wei was thinking of his friend, although he also knew that his friend would also miss him, but he was still a little worried: what if this kid forgets me? So, he used "wish" "more" such can wish verbs and adjectives, and also used "red beans" and "this thing "such as the meaning of the same and colorful nouns, and finally simply use the verb "to think of each other", pouring out his deep affection for his best friend!
4. The understanding of the word "lovesickness".
People always think of "lovesickness" when they see this word, and they always understand the word "lovesickness" as meaning mutual. In fact, this is not true. The word "phase" is often used in front of a verb, grammar experts call it an adverb; and a lot of context, "phase" when each other. However, in certain contexts, it cannot be understood as meaning each other. For example, the two "phases" in the phrase "children do not know each other when they see each other" never mean each other, but refer to "I" (He Zhizhang); another example is "Liaozhai Zhiyi" (Liaozhai Zhiyi), "The Three Wolves". The "phase" in "The wolf dared not go forward, gazing toward each other" cannot be interpreted as each other, but refers to the butcher, and "gazing toward each other" means that the wolf is staring at the butcher with his eyes wide open. The word "Xiang" in both cases indicates that one party is doing something to the other. The same applies to the word "Xiang Xiang". For example, "The boy met a beautiful woman on the road, and when he went home, he became lovesick." Can the word "lovesick" be interpreted as thinking of each other? I'm afraid it can only be interpreted as "thinking of that beautiful woman"!
To summarize, the "Xiang" in Wang Wei's poem "Acacia" does not mean mutual, but refers to thinking of people; "Xiang" means "thinking of". The object involved in "thinking" is "Xiang" (相思). If you ask me how to say "this object is the most lovesick", I think it can be said as follows: "This object is the most lovesick". I think it can be said as: "This kind of red bean, it is the most capable of evoking thoughts of me (Wang Wei)." Of course, the poet hopes that every time he sees these red beans with special meanings, he will think of me, and he also implies to his friend that "I" am also thinking of "you"!
These are poems that send love through aria.
This is a poem that sends out love through the use of objects. The first line of the poem, although simple, but rich in imagination; then to ask a question to send a message, meaningful to send love; the third line implies that the precious friendship, the surface seems to ask people to think of each other, but the back of the deep implication of their own love of each other; the last double entendre, not only in the meaning of the topic, but also close to the feelings of the wonderful writing, Wanqu moving.
