I went to Shantou in 2004 and left in 2006. The most unforgettable thing is Kuay Teow. This is the most common food, but it is getting farther and farther away from the past. Now that I think about the past, I miss these ordinary foods even more.
I was born and raised in the north, and my taste is quite strong.
When I came to Shantou and ate Kway Teow for the first time, I thought it was bland and not very delicious.
It’s about the same thickness as northern noodles, but chewy.
The soup is translucent and topped with a layer of coriander.
I don’t know what condiments were added, but the soup was very fresh.
After finishing a bowl of kuey teow, I still think the soup tastes better.
When I went to eat it for the second time, I felt the taste was coming.
From then on, I fell in love with Kway Teow.
Every evening after get off work, I walk twice on Chaoshan Road and study a few old books.
Tired of shopping, eat a bowl of rice noodles.
Take advantage of the darkness and return to your residence.
Go to bed and read a couple of pages in an old book.
A very satisfying life!
After crossing the Han River, there is a large shanty town.
On a street shop, there is a shop that buys rice rolls.
The rice rolls here are different from those bought elsewhere. Each rice roll contains a peeled shrimp.
One day, I passed by this shop accidentally and saw the crowds of people, and I couldn't help but be stunned.
When the store clerk saw us, he hurriedly came out to socialize.
They put us on a table, and after a while, two plates of rice rolls were served.
After taking a bite, it was delicate and tender. This was the biggest gift given to me that morning.
I have been away from Shantou for more than ten years now, and I miss the food in that place.
