When was it built and what are its features?
Qingyuan Old Zhongshan Park is located on the west side of today's City Square, bounded by Beimen Street to the west, Xianfeng Middle Road to the south, and Fuhou Street to the north, covering an area of ??about 150 acres.
This place was originally the command and guard office of the Qing government and was rebuilt in 1925.
The old site originally contained five large banyan trees that were more than 180 years old, two white magnolias, one noodle tree, one eagle's claw orchid, as well as many trees and cantons, all of which are relics of the Qing Dynasty.
Therefore, as soon as the park was completed, it presented a scenery of towering ancient trees and dense shade, and the newly built pavilions and pavilions made it even more dazzling.
The main entrance of the park faces Pioneer Street, and there are three arched doors to the south, like a tall archway.
The four characters "Zhongshan Park" are engraved on the main gate; there is a couplet on the back of the gate: "The clear scenery is pleasant, suitable for the setting sun in the thatched alley, the sky and the lake embracing the moon; the distant mountains are picturesque, and it is best to listen to the rain in Songgang and watch the clouds from a pencil stand."
The couplet is the word "Qingyuan" embedded in the crane crown, and the content covers the four sceneries of Qingyuan: the setting sun in Maoxiang, the moon in the sky lake, listening to the rain in Songgang and watching the clouds in a pen stand.
In the middle of the garden, stands a majestic statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, with the "Prime Minister's Will" inscribed on the base.
There are two tower cypresses planted on both sides, and behind the statue is a flower bed full of exotic flowers.
There are rockeries, fish ponds, splashing fountains, and dozens of goldfish splashing in the water, which is full of elegance and fun.
On the west side is the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
This was originally the Guanyue Temple, which was renovated in 1931 and became a magnificent building at that time.
There is a flat plaque on the main entrance, which is engraved with Sun Wen's handwriting "The world is for the common good"; at the top is a horizontal plaque with the words "The majesty lasts forever".
The first floor is the venue, and the second floor is the Kuomintang County Party Headquarters office.
There is a "Folk Music Pavilion" built close to the east side of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
There is a hexagonal pavilion in the center, named "Taotao Pavilion", which was built in 1926.
Directly behind is a couplet written by Yang Shengyuan: "Seeing the green mountains outside Guo leisurely, I have the painting of cloud forest in the heart of Mojie's poem; cherish the green trees in front of the courtyard, recalling the river sun and flowers filling the shade of Nanguotang."
The rain is green; when you lean on the railing and smile, the beautiful flowers will turn red towards the sunset. "Behind the Taotao Pavilion is a green grassland, dotted with a few rugged rocks.
Among them is a yellow wax stone with a texture that resembles a crab shape.
Legend has it that when the floods in Qingyuan rise, the "crabs" crawl upwards, and then crawl back to their original places when the floods recede.
There is a "Jingxian Tower" in the northernmost part of the park, which was built in 1928 with donations from county businessmen.
Zhongli's "Jingxian Tower": "In the autumn and September of the seventh year of the Republic of China, merchants from the neighboring city built a building in Zhongshan Park, Qingyuan, and named it "Jingxian Tower"..." Chen Douchu wrote a couplet for this:
"The stars are as numerous as the country's best, and the moon is crescent and people are leaning on the building." "Jingxian Tower" is a two-story building. The upstairs is a library, with books and newspapers on display for visitors to read; downstairs, wooden chairs are placed for visitors.
rest.
There is a small pond in front of the door, with a bridge over the pond and fragrant lotus flowers planted in the pond.
After liberation, the people's government felt that the old Zhongshan Park was too narrow to meet the needs of citizens for leisure activities, so in 1958 it moved to Zhushigang, Liyuan, Tanyuan, Fuchangwei and other areas on the south bank of Dongmen Pond to expand the park.
.
After years of operation, the garden scenery of the new Zhongshan Park has become more beautiful, and a zoo, children's playground and activity square have been added to complement it, making it a good place for citizens and tourists to exercise, entertain and relax.
Every morning and sunset, men, women and children come here to engage in various useful activities, and the entire park presents a vibrant scene.
The ruins of the old Zhongshan Park were used to expand into the seat of Qingyuan County Government, and after the establishment of the city, it was changed to the seat of Qingcheng District People's Government.
On the east side of the park, there is a hexagonal pavilion built to commemorate Li Wenkai, one of the seventy-two martyrs of Huanghuagang.
This pavilion was built in the park in 1934. There is a "Preface to the Martyrs' Pavilion" in the pavilion.
The preface was written by Zou Lu of Dabu in 1935, written by Chen Keyu, and engraved by Liang Junsheng of Duanzhou.
Li Wenkai is from Hetang Village, Gaoqiao Dalong Township, Yuantan Town, our city.
In 1909, he went to Singapore to work as a worker at Zhongxing Daily and Nanhua Daily, which were founded by Chinese.
After contacting the revolutionary members of the Zhongxing Society, he accepted the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal revolutionary ideas. He hated the Qing government's mediocrity and the invasion of imperialist powers. With the ambition of revitalizing China, he returned to China in 1910 to participate in the Revolution of 1911.
On February 28, 1911, he joined the death squad that attacked the Guangdong and Guangxi Supervisory Office. He was seriously injured during the retreat, but he still insisted on covering his comrades until he shed the last drop of his blood.
The Li Wenkai Martyrs Pavilion was in disrepair and the inscriptions were lost.
Later, with the relocation of the park, it was rebuilt in the new park.
A sports venue has been opened in front of the Martyrs Pavilion, including a basketball court, swing frame, wave bridge, slide, etc.
There is a hexagonal pavilion beside the stadium, with chairs and stone benches in the pavilion.
The couplet on the front of the Hexagonal Pavilion reads: "The snowy scenery reflects the flowers, so why not soothe your eyes while admiring it; the ice plate relieves the heat, and you can recite it and moisten your heart with poetry."
There is another couplet behind the pavilion: "Willow tower, Huilan courtyard; lotus pond and peony railing."
