What kind of milk should be used to feed newborn lambs?

Feeding of newborn lambs: Mainly mother's milk, artificial feeding mostly uses goat's milk, cow's milk and milk powder.

1. After the lamb leaves the mother's body, it is basically breast milk, so the nutrition of the ewe should be strengthened. The lamb must eat the "colostrum" secreted by the ewe for 1-3 days after birth.

"Colostrum" has high nutritional value. The protein is 4-5 times that of regular milk. It has a complete range of vitamins and contains vitamins that lambs cannot synthesize. It is also rich in trace elements. The magnesium salt in "colostrum" has a laxative effect.

Promote the passage of meconium.

At the same time, "colostrum" contains immunoglobulins that are not found in regular milk, which can increase the lamb's immunity and resistance and increase the lamb's physical fitness.

2. If a lamb that lacks milk cannot find a "nanny" sheep, it must be fed by humans. For artificial feeding, goat milk, cow's milk and milk powder are often used.

Improper feeding of milk powder can cause indigestion and death of lambs from dysentery, so we should always pay attention to changes in lamb feces and prevent and treat them as soon as possible.

In order for artificial feeding to be successful, feeding must be done regularly and quantitatively, and a dedicated person must be responsible.

(1) Lambs under 1 month old should be fed once every 3 hours; when 1 to 2 months old, feed 4 times a day; when 2 to 3 months old, feed 3 times a day; after 3 months old, feed 1 to 3 times a day.

2 times.

As the age of the baby increases, gradually reduce the number of feedings and increase the amount of feeding each time appropriately.

(2) Constant temperature. The milk temperature of artificial breastfeeding should be close to or slightly higher than the body temperature of the ewe, that is, 38°C to 42°C is better.

(3) Subcutaneous injection of 0.5ml of Escherichia coli vaccine into newborn lambs can prevent lamb dysentery. For lambs with weak constitution, 10ml of glucose calcium chloride and 10ml of 25% glucose can be used while bathing in warm water.

Inject slowly intravenously.

Generally, lambs are driven outdoors on a windless, warm and sunny day for exercise 5-7 days after birth to enhance their physical fitness, increase appetite, promote growth, and reduce diseases. Newborn lambs, especially lambs born to thin ewes, have weak constitutions.

, poor vitality, low ability to regulate body temperature, and weak resistance to disease. Maintaining a good sanitary environment is conducive to the growth and development of lambs.

(4) It is best to put some clean bedding in the sheep house, and keep the room temperature between 5 and 10°C without major changes.

If the newborn lambs are weak, they should be placed in a warmer sheep house or on a hot bed. The temperature should not exceed the body temperature. When they can feed themselves and their spirits improve, the room temperature can be gradually lowered to the normal temperature of the sheep house.

(5) Those who feed lamb milk should wash their hands before feeding.

Do not usually come into contact with sick sheep, and try to reduce or avoid disease-causing factors. "Quantitative" refers to the amount of food each time, which should be controlled at the level of "70% full", and avoid overfeeding.

The specific amount is determined according to the weight or size of the lamb. Generally, the amount of milk given throughout the day is equivalent to 1/5 of the newborn weight.

When feeding porridge or soup, the amount should be rationed according to the consistency. The amount fed throughout the day should be slightly lower than the milk feeding standard, especially in the first 2 to 3 days of feeding porridge. Feed less at first, and then increase the amount after getting used to it.

When the lamb is healthy and has a good appetite, every 7 to 8 days, the feeding amount should be increased by 1/4 to 1/3 compared with the previous period. If the lamb has indigestion, the feeding amount should be reduced, the amount of drinking water should be increased, and some treatment measures should be taken. Newborn lambs should be fed every day

Feed 6 times, once every 3 to 5 hours. You can extend the time or reduce the frequency of sleep at night.

After 10 days, feed 4 to 5 times a day, and when the lambs are grazing or eating, it can be reduced to 3 to 4 times.
