Zhongmu belongs to Zhengzhou City.

Zhongmou County is located between 34°26′-34°56′ north latitude and 113°46′-114°12′ east longitude. It is located in the hinterland of the Central Plains and on the coast of the Yellow River.

The central and eastern part of Henan Province is under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou City.

It borders the ancient capital Kaifeng City to the east, Zhengzhou City, the provincial capital, to the west, Xinzheng City and Weishi County to the south, and faces Yuanyang across the Yellow River to the north.

The maximum length of the territory from north to south is 55 kilometers, the maximum width from east to west is 39 kilometers, and the total area is 1,406 square kilometers.

Zhongmu was called Putian in ancient times and was initially established as a county in the Western Han Dynasty.

In the twelfth year of Emperor Gao of the Han Dynasty (195 B.C.), it was called Zhongmouhou State. In the fifth year of Emperor Wu's reign of Shangding (112 B.C.), it was renamed a county. In the first year of Emperor Kaihuang of the Sui Dynasty (581), it was renamed Neimou.

Mou was a nursery; in the third year of Wude (620) of the Tang Dynasty, Mouzhou was established; in the fourth year of Wude, Mouzhou was abolished and still became a county.

Although the affiliation of the administrative districts has changed many times since then, the name of the county has not changed to this day, and most of the administrative offices are in the area around the present county seat.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zhongmu once belonged to Chenliu District, Zhengzhou District, and Kaifeng District. In July 1983, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou City and County.

Extended information: The current Zhengzhou City belonged to Gushi County during the period of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty. In the fifth year of Yuanding (112 BC), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty Liu Che, Guanyi was placed under Zhongmou County.

After the Eastern Han Dynasty, the name "Guanyi" was gradually replaced by "Guancheng", which belonged to Zhongmu County.

After the Northern Zhou Dynasty destroyed the Northern Qi Dynasty, the northern Yuzhou was changed to Xingzhou, and the state was governed as Gao.

During this period, Guancheng (now Guancheng District, Zhengzhou City) has always been subordinate to Zhongmou County.

In the Sui Dynasty, Zhengzhou was changed to Guanzhou, and the state governance was moved to Guancheng from Chenggao. Guancheng was also separated from Zhongmu as a separate county.

During the Five Dynasties, Zhengzhou administered 7 counties including Chengcheng, Xinzheng, and Xingyang. In the Later Liang Dynasty, Yangwu was placed under the Kaifeng Prefecture, and in the Later Jin Dynasty, Zhongmu was placed under the Kaifeng Prefecture.

After Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, he reformed the local establishment of the country and implemented a three-level system of province, prefecture (Zhili prefecture), and county.

The four counties of Xingyang, Xingze, Heyin, and Sishui, together with Zhongmu, Xinzheng, and Mi counties, were subordinated to Kaifeng Prefecture.
