Overview of Xie Jian
Xie Jian, the first president of the International Hakka Society. Bachelor of Archaeology and Anthropology from Taiwan Province Provincial University, Master of Archaeology and Anthropology from University of Pittsburgh, USA, Ph.D. in Anthropology. He is currently teaching in the Department of Anthropology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and is engaged in the research of ethnic minorities in China (mainly Samei, a branch of Yi nationality, and Paiyao, a branch of Yao nationality) and overseas volunteer organizations (mainly Hakkas).

He has served as assistant and researcher at the Institute of History and Linguistics of Academia Sinica, lecturer, senior lecturer and professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, visiting professor at the Department of Anthropology of Taiwan Province Provincial University, professor at the Department of Sociology of Hong Kong Shue Yan College and director of the Center for Contemporary China Studies, and director of the Asia-Pacific Institute of South China Management College. 1999 Dean, School of Social Studies, University of South China.
