Finns have the following three main dietary traditions:
1. A large plate of raw vegetables before meals
People who love meat may feel a little a little bit disappointed when they come to Finland. I’m not used to it because I have to eat a large plate of various raw vegetables before the main course. Especially for buffet-style lunch and dinner, locals will definitely bring a big plate to serve salad first. For people with a small appetite, after eating a large plate of raw vegetables, the stomach will be half full, and the amount of staple food will naturally be reduced.
2. Salmon is their favorite.
Finns often have only five or six dishes on their main menu, among which there are only one kind of beef and one kind of pork, and the others are all kinds of deep-sea dishes. Fish, especially salmon, is said to be particularly popular among Finns and is eaten with almost every meal. They are lightly fried in very little olive oil and served.
3. Rye bread as staple food
Rye bread can be seen everywhere on the dining table. This is the most traditional staple food in Finland and is hailed as the "best food" by Finns. . Rye bread contains two or three times more dietary fiber than ordinary whole-wheat bread, so it is very easy to feel full and can also promote defecation. Research from the International Institute of Technology in Finland shows that eating rye bread can also prevent diabetes, and eating 30 grams a day is good for your health. However, people who eat this kind of bread for the first time may not be used to it. It has a rough texture and a sour taste. After eating it a few times, you will get used to the natural wheat flavor.
