Harbin is a comprehensive city with industry as the main body and comprehensive development of three industries. It is one of my country's old industrial bases.

During the "First Five-Year Plan" and "Second Five-Year Plan" periods, an industrial economic structure was formed with state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises as the main body and heavy industry as the focus.

Since the reform and opening up, Harbin has accelerated the pace of reform of state-owned enterprises, implemented strategic adjustments to the industrial economy, and optimized the industrial structure and product structure.

After entering the new century and my country's accession to the WTO, Harbin insists on using informatization to drive industrialization and is working hard to build Harbin into a national machinery manufacturing industry, high-tech industry, green food, pharmaceutical industry, economic and trade science and technology cooperation base with Russia, and a world famous ice and snow tourism city.

Harbin has a well-developed tertiary industry, including foreign trade, finance and insurance, transportation, post and telecommunications, real estate, tourism and various social services, which occupy an important position in the province and the country.

In 1988 and 1991, Harbin established high-tech development zones and economic and technological development zones to promote the development of high-tech industries.

Since 1990, the Harbin Economic and Trade Fair has been held annually, attracting countless domestic and foreign businessmen and becoming an important window for my country's opening up to the outside world.

Harbin has convenient transportation, with water, land, air and transportation extending in all directions.

Harbin Airport is the largest international airport in northeastern China. Harbin Railway Station is the hub of the railway trunk line in northeastern China. Songhua River is the third largest inland navigation river in China. Harbin Port is the largest central port on this river.
