However, due to various pollution sources such as agricultural non-point source pollution, aquaculture pollution, soil erosion caused by high-yield forest planting, domestic pollution, farmhouse restaurant pollution and industrial and commercial enterprise pollution, the water quality is Class IV water, which is far from meeting the standard of drinking water source. Therefore, systematic remediation is imperative.

Guangzhou Water Affairs Bureau, after organizing experts to fully demonstrate and listening to opinions from all sides, thinks that Gualu Lake can be launched as a comprehensive water conservancy and livelihood project in Zengcheng, and it has been listed as a key construction project determined by provinces and cities.

Gualv Lake will open the meridians of Zengcheng water network and connect Zengjiang River, Dongjiang River and Xifu River. The storage capacity of 8 square kilometers can not only adjust the water quantity, but also urgently activate the standby water source of Gualu Lake in case of water pollution incident in the upper reaches of Zengjiang River, providing clean emergency water source for urban residents for three months.

In the core area of Gualu Lake coordinated by Zengcheng, 7% of the land in the core area with a total area of 65 square kilometers will be used for ecological conservation, and the use and nature of the land will not be changed.

In the future, Gualu Lake will be the Lingnan water town where herons are flying, and the core area of 65 square kilometers will have a planned low-density headquarters economic zone, a financial gathering area and a financial street, a bar street, an international leisure food block, a small yacht club, etc., pointing to the industrial prospects of high-end service industries. A number of high-grade public services will be built by Gualu Lake, including 3A Hospital, Zengcheng Children's Palace, Zengcheng Stadium, Zengcheng Grand Theatre, etc. Zengcheng citizens don't have to drive to Guangzhou for more than an hour to register, but they can also enjoy a classic concert at their doorstep, stroll around luxury shopping malls, and truly enjoy the high-quality life of Guangzhou City Sub-center.

It is understood that Gualv Lake is a complex ecological project. Someone is asking, it is big enough to build a lake with more than 8 square kilometers. Why does the whole core area need 65 kilometers? Experts said that it is necessary to effectively control and protect the ecological environment around the lake, especially to have the control area around the lake as a buffer.

In addition, Gualv Lake will maximize its ecological function. Zengcheng government will not only sink or move out the main roads passing through the second phase of North Third Ring Road, Zengtan Highway and Lixin Highway in the core area, but also develop trams, greenways and slow lanes, and take fewer cars.
