Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street is located at Shangjiu Road, Xiajiu Road, and Shishifu Road in Liwan District (commonly known as Xiguan). Nai\x0d\ 2. History of Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street\x0d\ As early as the 6th century, this area has become a commercial gathering area. The Indian monk Bodhidharma landed here to preach, so it was named "The First Land of the West".
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with the establishment of Huaiyuan Post (on the south side of today's Xiajiu Road) to receive foreign envoys and merchants, the opening of the Daguan River, and Shisanhang becoming an important port for Guangzhou's foreign trade, commerce and trade prospered day by day.
\x0d\\x0d\ After the Opium War, the wealthy businessmen of Guangzhou City chose sites to build residences in Xiguan one after another. This was followed by the opening of various Suzhou and Hangzhou grocery stores, foreign goods stores, and teahouses and restaurants.
By the late Qing Dynasty, it had become a prosperous commercial center in Guangzhou.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, many merchants were doing business here in Shangjiufu, Xiajiufu and Shishifu.
In the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), the merchants in Shibafu area were destroyed by fire, and the business in Xiguan gradually transferred to Shangxiajiufu and Shishifu.
