Teacher nan huaijin said: If you don't break your roots, you won't go into the mountains, and if you don't close your doors, you won't close your doors. Reprinted from Jialing Xianyin blog
The word "close your doors" comes from the Book of Changes-the first king even closed his doors to Japan. What is it? When the time comes, you will go to the closed door, which is not the explanation. China calendar has two solstice, summer solstice and winter solstice, summer solstice is cloudy and winter solstice is sunny. The winter solstice is between November of the lunar calendar. The winter solstice brings forth the sun, and the yang is born. It belongs to the meaning of restoring divination and restoring vitality with the sun. The second Yang is in December, and the third Yang is the beginning of the first month. The so-called three Yang's opening of Thailand and the divination of the earth and the sky, also known as the opening of Thailand by three sheep, means auspicious. At present, the first month of the lunar calendar is the beginning of the year, which is the culture of the Zhou Dynasty. In the Shang Dynasty, the ugly month of December was the beginning of the year. In the Xia Dynasty, November was the beginning of the year, which meant a sunny winter solstice.
what did China's ancestor, the late king, do when he closed the door? Fasting and bathing. Fasting is not vegetarian, and vegetarianism is not fasting. Actually, vegetarianism can't be called vegetarianism. What is vegetarianism? It's hard to say that vegetarians are white and clean, and it should be said that not eating meat is the most accurate. What's more, it can't be said that fasting is pure, and the real fasting means "washing your heart and hiding it in the secret". You wash your heart clean, and you can't have any thoughts, and you can't find it. Therefore, it is called hiding it in the secret.
Later, Buddhist thought entered China and used the term "closed door". When you study Buddhism, don't talk about seclusion easily. There are two words in Zen Buddhism: "You can't go into the mountains without breaking the foundation, and you can't close the door until you get back to the customs." Before enlightenment, you are not qualified to live in the mountains, because your physical and mental troubles are not clean. Even in the cleanest place, you still have troubles. You have to realize the Tao, break the reference, break the initial barrier, and be clear-minded. At the beginning of the customs clearance, there is nothing to see, and at the end of the customs clearance, there is something to be repaired. At this time, it is fixed day and night. The real retreat is not to worship Buddha and read scriptures. There is nothing in the closed room, but a futon, a kettle and a few very simple things. Now, the door is closed. What are you closing? Guanyin Pass, Worship the Sutra Pass, are all passes.
We talked for a long time to explain that "Pure Bodhisattva stops". Please note that Mahayana Bodhisattva is not only enlightened, but also enlightened, and more importantly, it is a wish. Is your behavior really beneficial to the world and people? If you just want to practice Buddhism, you can eat vegetables and carrots well, regardless of everything. That's not the Bodhisattva Road.
Yuanjue Jing says here that when you settle down in summer, you must find such a pure bodhisattva to study with you. Just now, I mentioned closing the door. Some students are going to close the door. What makes you close the door? I want to take a specialized course. Why should you take it? What are you going to fix? Do you know the way to practice? Is there a way? Do you know what will happen next when you reach this state? I don't know. How do you fix it? For example, meditation shakes up, so what if it shakes up? Shake it there? You said that the qi pulse is connected, to what extent? Go there? I don't understand any of this. How do you specialize? How do you close your doors? The ancient people closed their doors to the outside world according to the master! It's the teacher who takes care of your retreat, and it's the good knowledge that really protects the customs. I'll tell you what to do next at any time. Some of my old friends said they were going to retreat. Who will take care of you? I have students, I have apprentices, okay! You go and turn it off!
Master Hanshan said, "It's easy to get down among thorns, but it's hard to turn around under the moonlight curtain." As you are now distracted, delusions and troubles can't be broken, and thorns and weeds are all stabbing you all the way. It's easy to trample it down with one foot in this chaos! However, when the mind is pure, my heart is empty, I can do things at any time, and I have no thoughts at any time, which is equal to the state of clear wind and bright moon and cloudless Wan Li. It is difficult to turn around at this time under the moonlight curtain and turn from empty to further! If you have passed this step, it is equal to the re-clearance. Pay attention! Don't just close the door! According to the rules of Zen, "if you don't break the ginseng, you won't enter the mountain". If you don't break the ginseng, you won't be able to live in the mountain and you won't be qualified to live in Maopeng. "If you don't close the door until you re-enter the customs, you will be eligible to close the door, and then go further and break the third last prison." These are the old rules.
the place of monasticism is not there, everything is in your heart. A few years ago, I was going to close my door and look around. Many classmates and old friends asked me to go there. I told them no when I saw some houses. Some people want to send us land, so I have to build a house. When it's finished, maybe I should turn my retreat into a closed coffin. Suddenly, I thought, I'm stupid myself. Where else can I find? The city can be closed, and the place where I live will be closed as soon as the door closes! If you close your heart, you will close it. Where can you call it a retreat? So people thought I went to a mountain top, but in fact I was locked up in the city for three years. Close the door yourself, and it will be closed that day. Don't deliberately find a clean place to cultivate and become a monk. Your heart is not clean, and it is useless to go anywhere! This is the truth of the Dojo. What temple are you looking for? It's not good for you to go to the temple! The same troubles, the same pain. You're amazing. After that, hey! Any painful place is a Dojo. Attention! This is the main point of Mahayana Buddhism.
When I was initially closed to the outside world, I had to give myself homework. I thought to myself, there are buddhas, bodhisattvas and protectors watching you everywhere I look. Confucius also said that "it is not good for a villain to live in idleness". Ordinary people and villains are lax as long as they have leisure. In fact, laziness, slackness and laxity are sins in themselves, so Buddhism stresses diligence. Personally, I never slackened off when I closed the door, and I worked hard all 24 hours a day. Sleep is also one of the lessons, so you should manage yourself and not sleep too much.

I don't know the beginning of the closed door, which means that Dumen is grateful and inspirational. The term "closed-door" can also be found in our country's Book of Changes, which says, "The first king and even the Japanese closed-door, business travel was not good, and the party was not saved afterwards." It is the meaning of fasting and resting. Those who said this in later generations all cited Sakyamuni's cover-up in Moji and Vimo's silence in Piye. Zen, the prevailing wind. Up to the later generations, no matter what Sect, there are many people who close their doors at any time. Their names are "worshipping the classics" and "chanting the Buddha", and all kinds of names are the same as the call.
According to the legend of the clan, "If you don't break your roots, you won't enter the mountain, and you won't close your door until you get back to the customs." How strict it is to say that it is closed to the outside world I don't know when this meaning began. Only Zen master Yongjia dissuaded Master Zuo Xilang from writing, saying that he should not go into the mountains without knowing his heart. If the spring rocks are rushing, the strange rocks and valleys will all lead to troubles. Although the environment is clear, the heart is not clean, and it is useless. If you have a clean heart, though you are in the middle of it, it is like a mountain forest, so why go into the mountains to find a way! What did the teacher mean when he said that he would "re-close the customs" and close the door? In the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, all the younger brothers in the peak couldn't get out of the mountain, especially in the peak, where the firewood was tied as a niche, and the wind wore through the sun, and the winter and summer were smashed, and the furnace was not fanned, but the day was smashed and the breath was delayed, marking the end of life. Although it is said that Buddhism is lonely and pure, it has almost changed with the times, and it is a bad way to keep it!
Zen people are closed to the outside world, which is different from the usual pattern, that is, "the standard cross arm does not see people, and they go straight to thousands of peaks." This must be the beginning of the portal, and go to the customs for a big break. This is a great event, and it can't be done hastily. Otherwise, people's years are wasted for no reason, human affairs need to be done urgently, and self-interest and altruism are everywhere, so why engage in it! If the mind is not clear, the taboo words in the room, floating delusions, trying to hold back, shallow illness into madness, deep self-harm, this can be seen at any time. As for indulging in Guanzhong music, it is another matter to take something else, to clothe yourself and eat well, and to take advantage of it to live on a high pillow.
Only Tibetan tantra, closed to Taoism, is different from the simplicity of Zen. Tantric Buddhism is different from "black customs" and "white customs". Practitioners in Guanzhong must support themselves and be carefree and tired, so that they can concentrate on their studies. Taoism, on the other hand, is known as "entering the country to run the Tao", which requires four conditions: borrowing law, wealth, marriage and land. The methods are all different, and they are recorded as reference.
no matter how you close your door, you should treat it as an austere thing. If the Bank of China is "as ignorant as a boat" or "sitting for a long time without lying down", it will be useless if it is all about asceticism and meritorious deeds. However, it is also commendable! But you should know that asceticism is not the Tao, and it is only one of the ears to help the Tao. Take Gude's travels, such as:
Monk Na Zen Master, surnamed Ma, young but handsome, twenty-one years old, telling Li and Yi in the East China Sea, and the audience is like the city. When I met my second ancestor, I became a monk. Naturally, I don't write, I do my best to abandon the world, and I only have a bowl of clothes, a meal, and a trip to Buddhism. Later, it was said that the master was full of wisdom: the father was impressed by his heart, and he was not specialized in asceticism, but he helped the Tao. If you are true to your heart and use your true light at will, you will be as hard as gold. If you only do asceticism, but you don't know your true intentions, and you are bound by hatred, then asceticism is like a dark moonlit night, and you are walking on a dangerous road. ..... After full, I also served as a Buddhist monk, but I stored two needles, begged for it in winter, and gave it up in summer. I had no fear in my heart and slept without dreaming. I often beg for food, but when I go to Galand, I break firewood and make shoes, so I don't have to stay. In the sixteenth year of Zhenguan, I stayed in the ancient tomb on the side of the Shanhui Temple in Luoyang. In case of heavy snow, I went to the temple to see Master Tan Kuang, who was always strange. Man said: Dharma comes and goes! Looking for the place, there are five feet of snow on all sides. Kuang yue: unpredictable!
if he lives in a secluded forest like a layman, he eats wood and drinks water. At the beginning of Tianbao in the Northern Qi Dynasty, it was heard that the second ancestor was flourishing, which was to ask for a certificate and seal the seal. When the bull's head melted and the four ancestors were not seen, there was a difference between a hundred birds and flowers in the stone room of the secluded rock. After getting the law right, the prosperity of the law seat is planned in Huangmei. In Tang Yonghui, the disciples were short of food, and the teacher went to Danyang. Go to the mountain for 8 miles, bow and bear one stone and eight fights, and return to dusk for three hundred monks, and there will be no shortage at two o'clock. If you melt the Zen master, you will live in the rock cave at the beginning, and then you will lose rice for the public! Negative rice and cave dwelling are both ascetic, so why are they totally different? Bodhisattva teaches people, and donates the leader himself. It is difficult to do asceticism, and the secrets are different, but how hard it is to make a wish with everyone!

The practice of meditation in Buddhism and Taoism is called retreat, and this retreat also appears in the Book of Changes-"The first king even closed to Japan". Pay attention! The "solstice" is the winter solstice and the summer solstice. If the teachers don't pass on the phrase "close to the sun", no one can read those books. I have suffered, and I don't want you to suffer, so I will tell you when I know. Daoist magic, everyone wants to learn. If you learn how to call the shots, you will become a soldier. If you don't want to be Zhuge Liang, you will be Zhuge Liang! These knowledge are profound, not so simple. Like daoist magic, gossip is not clear, what Yin dun, Yang dun, are confused! It's hard to understand. My mind doesn't like mathematics, and it's very painful to learn it. After I know it, I will leave it behind and just know it. I have a competitive mind for knowledge. I must want to know what I don't know, and forget it when I know it. There's a formula to learn from daoist magic:
Yin and Yang are in harmony, but it's difficult to be poor, and the second is to return to the hometown.
if you can reach the principle of yin and yang, heaven and earth will come together in one hand.
"Yin and Yang are good and difficult to be poor", and Yin and Yang are good and difficult to be poor. The cleverness in this middle is that the laws of the universe are good and difficult to be poor. You will never get through it. Just saying the first sentence or two will defeat me. I always thought I was smart in reading, but I failed the exam. "Second, return to the hometown, 19 palaces", bad! I don't have a palace, and I don't have a house. Where can I have a palace? Not to mention this, what about "returning home"? I don't understand those fortune-tellers who look at feng shui. Some people who understand just smile, because learning this formula requires kowtowing and worshipping the door. Some people look at his appearance. It's not a great honor if he is a heretic! I won't worship, I won't worship books and I can't understand them. What's "two to return home"? In fact, it is the winter solstice and the summer solstice, one yin and one yang, and one shun and one inverse return to that standard.
"two to return home and one nine palaces", one is the beginning of yang number, and nine is the pole of yang number, which is not simple from beginning to end. These four sentences are the most tempting, but if I talk about them now, even if you all understand them, you can't get them. It's not that simple! This sentence just tells you the law. It's really wonderful to be obedient and disobedient. Do you really understand? So now we have to explain that the second solstice, the winter solstice and the summer solstice are one shun and one reverse. There is a saying in the Book of Changes that "the first king even closed the door to Japan", which is the ancient culture of China. When a person closes his door, it is the same every day and every month. At that time, he will be abstinent and abstain from bathing, which is meditation practice. Take Buddhism as an example, that is, six roots and six dusts are locked up and called closed doors. "Zhi" is the time when the sun comes back, or when the yin is born. If you grasp the laws of heaven and earth at this time, you meditate for an hour, that is, two hours, which is equivalent to three months' work. Of course, this is bragging and encouraging, but it is true that if you meditate at the right time, the effect is absolutely equal to how many times you sit.
Zen says, "If you don't break your roots, you won't enter the mountains, and you won't close your doors until you re-close." If you don't reach a place where you can't live, you are not qualified to enter the mountains, and you can't just close your doors. Because at some point, you don't know how to change your time. Who are you going to ask? Unless your teacher is also in Guanzhong. Once upon a time, a friend of our predecessors was closed to the outside world. His teacher knew that the apprentice's work was at a certain stage, and when there was nothing he could do, the teacher stood in front of him, told him how to do it, and left. Unless you are blessed with such a teacher, it is hard to find such a teacher!
"Manage and raise Yin and Hubei, concentrate on becoming a man". If you understand this truth, you should "manage" and earn money bit by bit like doing business. "Raise Yin and Hubei", Yin and Hubei are dikes, and you should make a dike yourself, like a city wall. We often say that the second ancestor Shen Guang, the disciple of Dharma, asked, how should Zen study hard? Father Dharma said, "When you breathe outside, you have no breath inside, and your heart is like a wall, so you can enter the Tao." In fact, both Buddhism and Taoism are the same. When the book "Participation in Tong Qi" was written, the founder of Dharma had not come to China, but it was two hundred years later. This sentence said by the founder of Dharma is the same as "managing and raising Yin and Hubei, and concentrating on becoming a body", but the expression is different.
It's easy for us to understand what the Dharma patriarch said, that monks don't care about anything outside, meditate with their eyes closed, and ignore the dead. It's really selfish. It is absolutely selfish to cultivate Buddhism. Selfishness can only be selfless when it is extreme. You must be good at yourself before you can be good at others! Like swimming, how can you jump into the sea to save people if you can't swim? This "breathlessness" means that the mind is not moving. By this time, the breathing has stopped and the thoughts have been cleaned up. "Heart is like a wall", the inside and outside are isolated, and the outside of the wall is separated from the inside of the wall. This is not Tao! Father Dharma said, "You can enter the Tao". Therefore, we should pay attention to the latter sentence. Some people say that "the external interest is all around, and the inner heart is not breathing" is the way, no! This just means that you have to be isolated from the inside and outside to be qualified to enter the Taoist temple. This is also the time to "manage and raise Yin and Hubei" and return to Yang.
"Concentrate on it to become a body", at this time, for those who study Buddhism, it is called cultivation and determination; Taoism is about function, not principle. "Concentration" is the most powerful, as if frozen, condensed, "concentration to become a body", condensed this function, and gradually formed a body outside the body, achieving new life inside or outside life.
There is a saying in Buddhist practice: "You can't go into the mountains unless you break the foundation, and you can't close your door until you get back to the customs." Without initial enlightenment, you are not qualified to live in the mountains. You said you were going to practice in the mountains, but you didn't realize anything. What kind of way are you going to practice in the mountains? "Managing and raising Yin and Hubei" is just a breakthrough, and it is not qualified to live in a mountain! After "concentration", we have to go back to the customs. The so-called realm of being outside the body can really be closed. Nowadays, when the door is locked, it is called closed door. You can study or write in the prison. That's not called monasticism, monasticism is closed to the outside world, even books are not needed, there is nothing, or there is only one.
