What is it like to work and live in Chengdu?
This note is mainly for non-Sichuan non-locals to share my actual experience of Chengdu. My personal subjective experience is strong, and I welcome corrections if there are any inaccuracies.
Chengdu is the fifth city where I work and live. Because of Zhao Lei's song "Chengdu" and Chengdu's vigorous publicity, I decided to come to Chengdu to work and live.
Let’s talk about my feelings about working and living in Chengdu as a foreigner: In terms of work: 1. There are few jobs. Chengdu is a core city in the southwest and has a siphon effect. It has a large population base, but it lacks many large-scale manufacturing industries.
Large group companies.
Mainly focusing on the Internet, financial company branches, tourism, catering and other service industries, resulting in few jobs and fierce competition.
2. Low salary. Salaries in Chengdu are generally not high. Salaries for liberal arts are generally 6k-15k, science and engineering are 10k-20k, functional positions are around 9k, and Internet positions are around 15k. Fortunately, most positions are not very busy.
When you come back from a first-tier city, your salary will usually be 70-20% off.
3. Tianfu Third Street in Chengdu is famous for its popularity, followed by Global Center, Financial City, South Railway Station, and IFS. However, if you meet a leader who likes to play mahjong after get off work, you can always do it. No need to work overtime.
4. Insufficient payment of five insurances and one fund. Many companies’ base is lower than your salary standard, let alone the average salary of the previous year.
The provident fund ratio is generally 6%-10%, and only public, private, and state-owned enterprises have a 12% ratio.
5. Most of them are large-scale non-Sichuan enterprises with non-core positions. They are usually branches and the like. Their business is relatively marginal or the efficiency is average, especially in the Internet industry, except of course for a certain studio.
It is recommended to go to Sichuan-based state-owned and private Internet companies. Foreign companies are also a good choice.
6. The work pace is slow. The work pace in Chengdu is about 0.6 in Beijing and 0.7 in Shanghai. The overall work pace is not fast. You will have a lot of time to set up a gantry, drink tea, and fish.
In terms of life: 1. Comfortable and comfortable. The pace of work is slow and the pace of life is also slow.
If you own a house and your life is less stressful, your pace will involuntarily slow down in this city, and your body and mind will not have to be tense every day, and you will feel very comfortable.
2. There are many delicacies, including spicy hot pot, skewers, Bobo chicken, ice noodles, cold noodles, drunken shrimps, wolf-toothed potatoes, grilled brains, egg cakes, tofu curds, barbecue and other delicacies and snacks. Spicy is the most popular.
Lord, I will get fat when I first come to Chengdu.
3. Convenient transportation There are many subway lines in Chengdu, making it very convenient to go anywhere.
Although there will be traffic jams when driving when it rains and on holidays, they pale in comparison to the traffic jams in commuting to and from get off work in Beijing and Shanghai.
4. Communicate mainly in Sichuan dialect. Because the majority of people in this province are accustomed to communicating in the local dialect, especially the old Chengdu people, they are not very good at speaking Mandarin, and sometimes outsiders may not understand.
Some companies also communicate in Sichuan dialect by default, which can be annoying if you don't understand.
But most people are very reasonable and will take the initiative to speak Mandarin to you.
5. There are many cloudy days. The sun in Chengdu is relatively scarce, especially in winter. It is gloomy for most of the month, and the sun is too bright in summer.
If you really like to bask in the sun, you should be cautious when settling in Chengdu. You can choose to experience it first in winter.
6. There are many students, few schools, and high competition. You have to know that Chengdu is divided into circles, first circle and second circle. The difference is directly reflected in the number of admissions and scores. You must understand this in advance.
7. Gradually rising housing prices. The comfort of Chengdu depends on its low housing prices and slow pace. However, as housing prices get higher and higher, living expenses gradually increase, which is not very friendly to Rongpiao who do not have a house.
