There are many varieties of Pu-erh tea, mainly distributed in the three major tea regions of Lincang, Pu-erh and Xishuangbanna.

Puerh tea can be divided into many different varieties according to different processing methods, storage age and place of origin, and the common ones are as follows:
1. Raw Puerh Tea: also known as Green Tea, refers to unfermented Puerh Tea made directly from freshly picked tea leaves.
2. Ripe Puerh: Also known as black tea, it refers to Puerh tea that has been fermented and processed, and usually needs to be stored for several years or more.
3. Pu-erh loose tea: refers to Pu-erh tea packaged in loose tea form, usually ripe Pu-erh.
4. Puerh Cake Tea: refers to Puerh tea pressed into cake form, usually ripe Puerh.
5. Pu-erh Brick Tea: refers to Pu-erh tea pressed into square bricks, usually ripe Pu-erh.
6. Pu-erh Tuo-Tuo-Tea: refers to Pu-erh tea pressed into tuo-shape, usually raw Pu-erh.
7. Pu-erh Maocha: refers to Pu-erh tea that still retains the hair of the tea tree, usually raw Pu-erh.
8. Puerh Old Tea Tree Tea: refers to Puerh tea produced from old tea trees, usually raw Puerh.
9. Puerh Mini Tea Cake: refers to pocket-sized small cakes of tea, usually ripe Puerh.
10. Pu-erh Bag Tea: refers to Pu-erh tea made directly from tea bags, usually ripe Pu-erh.
